WHAT DOES GOD HATE? Part Two

In my previous blog (June 7 ~ WHAT DOES GOD HATE?) I explained the first four sins from the list of “six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him.” (Proverbs 6:16) In today’s blog I want to explore the final three sins.

FAST FEET: God hates feet that are quick to rush into evil.” (Pro 6:18) When a person is being controlled by their fleshly [sin] nature, it’s almost as if they’re giving zero thought to what they’re doing and the potential consequences of their actions. I think of the phrase in the Bible, “bent on evil” (Exodus 10:10; Proverbs 16:30, Daniel 11:27) It’s like they’re being driven to disobey God and his commandments. Instead of “rush(ing) into sin”, James 1:19 (NIV) offers these wise words: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
Isaiah 59:7 NIV “Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil thoughts; ruin and destruction mark their ways.

FALSE WITNESS: “Lying” has already been on God’s hate list, so it may seem like this is somewhat redundant. But a “false witness” is a specific evil and show up as the 9th of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:16 NAS "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.”) Exodus 23:1 (NIV) offers this description of a false witness: "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness. 2 "Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd…” A false witness is someone who “has accused his brother falsely” (Deuteronomy 19:18 NAS). Instead, we’re to be a “truthful witness” who: “gives honest testimony” (Pro 12:17); “does not deceive” (Pro 14:5) and who “saves lives.” (Pro 14:25).

DIVISIVE PERSON: The final sin on God’s hate list is a man who stirs up dissension among brothers” or as it reads in the NAS “who spreads strife.” In Paul’s list of fifteen “acts of the sinful nature” eight (8) of them can be connected to a person who is a cause of division: hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions and envy. Instead of being a cause of strife, we should seek to be peacemakers: Romans 12:18 (NLT) “Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible.”

Take a look again at God’s hate list: HAUGHTY EYES~A LYING TONGUE~EVIL HANDS~WICKED HEART~FAST FEET~FALSE WITNESS~DIVISIVE PERSON. I’m pretty sure, check that, I am fully convinced God hasn’t changed how he feels about these sins. In my previous post I wrote: “It’s difficult for people to wrap their minds around the idea that God, who they believe is loving, patient and kind, can also hate certain actions and those actions can be disgusting to him.” In the politically-correct, dumbed down view of God which has become so popular today, people have a tendency to completely ignore what God hates and the truth he is holy. We would all do well to pay more attention to God’s hate list and to always keep before us, he’s a holy God.
